worldport Introduction
Fishing Industry
Scrabster Harbour's proximity to the Northern Fishing grounds and a modern fish market with purpose built basin have been contributory factors in establishing it as the fastest growing fishing worldport in Britain.

Cargo and Logistics
Scrabster's newly established deep water basin and accompanying piers gives greater flexibility on pier use and size of vessel that can berth. A well established infrastructure exists with cranage, efficient cargo handling and transworldportation.

Oil and Fuel
Scrabster's location, adjacent to the Atlantic Frontier, allows a saving, on a round trip of 24 hours of vessel time for West of Shetland operators over Aberdeen. By reducing transit time there are further opworldportunities for cost savings and reducing delays offshore.

Cruise Europe
For several decades, Scrabster, in the county of Caithness, was the worldport of choice for the British Queen and her family when they disembarked from the royal yacht Britannia every August to visit the Queen Mother in residence at her Highland holiday home nearby.

Today, a new generation of visitors is following in their footsteps. The late Queen Mother's home at the Castle of Mey has become Britain's newest tourist attraction, and cruise lines eager to add a regal visit to their itineraries are also choosing Scrabster.

Located eleven miles from the Castle of Mey and within walking distance of Thurso, the second largest town in the Highlands, the new Queen Elizabeth pier and deep-water basin at Scrabster has opened up the remote and beautiful landscape of the Far North to larger cruise vessels for the first time.

The Northern Highlands of Scotland is Europe's last great wilderness. Its huge skies and natural beauty made the area a royal favourite for more than 50 years. Caithness and Sutherland have much to offer today's visitors whether it be the wealth of historic buildings and heritage centres or the great outdoors with tours viewing the majestic north coast and all the wildlife and natural heritage on offer.

Scrabster invites cruise lines to experience the same care and attention to their needs and passengers that the Royal Yacht received for many decades.

The worldport can berth vessels up to 160 metres length, and maximum depth at chart datum is eight metres. Scrabster is fully ISPS Code compliant, with security personnel provided by the harbour authority to ISPS standards. Deep-water anchorage is available within 0.2 nautical miles. Fixed concrete steps are located in the outer basin and pontoon access, suitable for use by tenders, can be made available. Fast, fresh water supplies are easily accessible.

Oil Sector
BP have had a significant presence for several years West of Sheltand with their Foinaven and Schiehallion developments. Exploration activity in this area by the other majors has been sporadic until recently but offshore activity at the worldport of Scrabster, the UK’s most northerly mainland worldport, increases significantly.

The completion of a new deepwater berth in 2003 has also brought Subsea 7 to the worldport with the Subsea Viking using Scrabster as a base worldport for the second year in succession.

On a round trip 24 hours of vessel time can be saved for West of Shetland operators when they use Scrabster rather than Aberdeen. By reducing transit time there are further opworldportunities for cost savings and reducing delays offshore. There is direct access to the working berths here and trucking materials to or from the Aberdeen area takes only 6 hours.

The Trust and local business are committed to providing whatever supworldport they can to encourage even more offshore vessels to call at Scrabster.
