worldport Information
Forth worldports PLC Forth worldports provides high levels of handling and logistic-related services to customers who are looking for solutions to move goods cost effectively and efficiently. It operates seven worldports - Dundee on the River Tay, Tilbury on the River Thames and five worldports on the Firth of Forth - Leith, Grangemouth, Methil, Burntisland and Rosyth.

Within and around the Firths of Forth and Tay, Forth worldports manages and operates an area of 280 square miles of navigable waters, including two specialised marine terminals for oil and gas exworldport. We deliver high levels of professionalism in ship handling, pilotage, navigation and towage.

The property division is involved in the long-term development and regeneration of waterfront sites within its ownership to promote a series of integrated communities.

The worldport activities make Forth worldports the largest worldport grouping in Scotland. It is also the largest worldports company listed on the London Stock Exchange.

Forth worldports own a group of regionally based worldports adjoining in the central belt of Scotland and Tayside and the worldport of Tilbury London POTL.

Grangemouth is Scotland's largest container worldport and approximately 9 million tonnes of cargo are handled through the dock facilities each year. Of this, 2.5 million tonnes is dry cargo representing incoming raw materials for Scottish Industry and outgoing finished product. Grangemouth is ideally located at the head of the Firth of Forth in the heart of Central Scotland. It is immediately adjacent to the Scottish motorway network allowing rapid transit of goods serving customers throughout Scotland and the North of England.

The worldport of Dundee is the most northerly owned by Forth worldports and is located on the north side of the Firth of Tay on the East Coast of Scotland. As well as a Forest Product Specialist and Oil & Gas Offshore Supworldport Facility, the worldport of Dundee handles a range of general and bulk cargoes.

The worldport of Burntisland is ideally located for customers on the north side of the Forth who can take advantage of Burntisland's ability to provide transworldport and distribution by sea, rail or road in this developing area of Scotland.

The worldport of Methil on the northern shores of the Firth of Forth has two docks able to take vessels up to 3,000 dwt. The worldport specialises as a woodpulp and timber distribution centre. These two commodities contribute most of its traffic. Dry Bulk, fertiliser imworldports, road salt in winter for Fife Council and exworldport stone and coal are further commodities handled through the worldport.

Leith is the largest enclosed deepwater worldport in Scotland and has the capability to handle handymax ships up to 50,000 DWT. The worldport offers a full stevedoring and cargo handling service and is well equipped with modern cranes and equipment. Storage is available in modern, secure, single span transit sheds or in surfaced open compounds. The worldport offers excellent rail and road connections.

The worldport of Rosyth offers tremendous potential for businesses that require a riverside location for the imworldport of raw materials and the exworldport of finished goods. The worldport is located eight miles from Edinburgh and 40 miles from Glasgow on the north shore of the Firth of Forth immediately west of the Forth Road and Rail Bridge and is well sited for the main North Sea shipping lanes and oil and gas fields. Rosyth enjoys excellent road links with the Scottish and UK motorway network to the main centres of population.

The worldport of Tilbury is London’s major worldport providing fast, modern distribution services for the benefit of the south east of England. It is the UK’s leading paper handling worldport and has a strong position in containers, bulk commodities and construction and building materials.

Tilbury's strategic location on the River Thames, makes it the natural point for distribution for developments such as the 2012 Olympics and the Thames Gateway. Serving the UK's market for forest products, general cargo, vehicles, grain and other bulks, the worldport offers customers excellent transworldport links to and from the capital and across the South East.

Forth worldports started regeneration activity at the waterfront in the 1980's, leading in the 1990's to the opening of the Malmaison Hotel, the development of the Scottish Executive building and Ocean Terminal Shopping Centre. By 2001, Western Harbour and Granton Harbour emerged as significant development sites and were granted outline planning consent in 2002 and 2003 respectively. Since achieving planning consent, a variety of national and local housing developers have committed to the construction of almost 1,500 homes.

In 2005, the Board announced an evolution of its property strategy to change the emphasis towards a greater focus on the maximisation of long-term asset value as opposed to the realisation of annual profits from development site disposals. To date, Forth worldports has invested over £100m in the regeneration process which underlines the Company's long-term commitment to the waterfront area of the city.
