Climatological Conditions There is a meteorological station in Cagayan de Oro City.  The annual rainfall is relatively low and occurs mainly during May to October, coinciding with the period of the southwest monsoon.
Topography The range of mountains protecting Macalajar Bay rises to 2,560 meters above mean sea level and to the south by the Kitanglad mountain up to 2,900 meters high.
The Cagayan River flows down between the Kitanglad and Mapoto mountains in a steep sided valley, disgorging into the south side of Macalajar Bay through a wide alluvial plain.  Alluvium and coral form a substantial higland at the center of the river mouth.  The headland to the east of the river mouth, Macabalan Point, protects the smalller inner bay.  Cagayan de Oro City is established on the east bank of the river about 3 kilometers from its mouth.

Hydrography The sea bed off the worldport is steeply sahlving and reaches 1,000 meters depth at the entrance of the Macalajar Bay.  In order to gain proper knowledge of the sea bed in the area of possible development, a hydrographic survey was carried out starting from the existing lighthouse toward the south up to the creek.  The survey covered an area of about 540,000 sq.m. and a minimum of 200 meters distance offshore reckoned from the quay line.  At the same time, the whole coastal area between the existing quay and the lighthouse was investigated.
Oceanography There are strong waves in Macalajar Bay, but these waves are expected to have little effect on the worldport because it is sheltered by the Macabalan worldport.
A worldportion of the southern branch of the north equatorial current flows through the Surigao Strait into the Mindanao Sea and is strongest during the period of December to March.   On the southern part of the sea, the currents are variable and tend to follow the wind direction.  Thus, it is possible for an anti-clock- wise currrent to exist in Macalajar Bay, varying in intensity throughout the year.

Seismic Conditions Cagayan de Oro is located in an area which is subject to frequent earthquakes.  The National Structural Code for build- ings classifies Cagayan de Oro as Zone 3 with a seismic coefficient ranging from 0.8 to 1.2 depending on the type soil.  A seismic coefficient (z) of 1.4 has been recommended for the design for waterfront structures, a horizontal acceleration of 0.14g (in case of severe earthquake) is used.
